Usually lecy company comes and reads meter but new company doesn't so I've never had to read it before for them. Can someone tell me how you work out the day rate and the night rate because on the screen there's import then rate 2 then rate 4 but I don't know what's what? I've a feeling you subtract one from the other to get one of the rates possibly?

I've been with them 9 months and no ones been out to it yet and I've just given my notice so thought I had best get up to date with them

This is a Half Hour meter and they do not need reading. Furthermore if you do they will take no notice of your figures as they rely upon the automatic reading done by telecoms.
Do keep an eye on the figures though in case there is a problem.

To read, download a pdf manual Google Elster 1700
It is simply a matter of pressing the buttons

Scottish power own the meter and I'm no longer with them, I'm with extra energy so maybe only Scottish power can read it without coming to see it?
It's easy enough scrolling through the options but all I need to know is what rate 4 refers to and what rate 2 refers to because when I enter the meter readings online Im given these 2 boxes and I don't know which figure goes in which box. I downloaded the manual and it's no help. In the 9 months I've been with extra energy they have only billed me with estimated readings which tells me there relying on me to take the readings. I'm fairly sure rate 2 is the daytime usage but rate 4 is far too high to be night time usage because I know I use nearly same in day as at night.

You have a problem
Scottish power are the ones reading the meter although the telecom data can be read by anyone with the phone number and the PIN.
They will have the readings but it seems that nobody has done the handover of the data to the new supplier, this sometimes this takes months to organise.
Any figures you give them will be meaningless and it may be possible it is your supplier at fault.
The figures are downloaded from the meter as a column of figures 48 per day , 1400+ per month which have to be totalled, each figure represents the amount used in the previous half hour.
You should tell them it is a Half Hour meter and they should sort it. The figure is out there somewhere
Your new supplier should get his own figures from Scottish power .
They will know from the Mpan number the owner of the meter and thus where to get the usage from.
But you should always take the readings at change of supplier and if one tries to overcharge you have the evidence. Do take photos to back up.
