Lot of that type round us, horses regularly abandoned, normally live ones!! And local plod often ignore, drove over Newton Cap viaduct few wks past to have 2 horses trotting themselves across it, appreciate very little or no value in these animals but do not believe should be dumped like this for people to witness,

I have never seen so many half starved horses about the countryside, trouble is they are dirt cheap to purchase but very costly to keep. A lot of pikey trotting boys up around you pigken, probably one of them. It could be microchipped.
Maybe some sort of licence needed to keep horses ? As farmers we're inspected / Red Tractored religiously.
Facebook has been a real eye opener. Advertise quality hay....no interest....none whatsoever. Advertise 4 year old haylage with torn wrap for free.....the place lights up.
Some folks shouldn't be allowed to keep them IMO.

Agree about Facebook hay ads - they all want it cheap and delivered miles for free. Someone locally advertising some 3 year old hay ‘to clear’ at £1 a bale - about a dozen responses within the hour!

Licences and rules are only for those that abide by laws and rules, so it still wouldnt stop these people.

True enough, I assume we're talking about caravan born entrepreneurs here.
Some non - caravan born entrepreneurs aren't much better though.
Before anyone gets upity, there are. of course, decent horse owners about.....:D:angelic:

Disgusting as the dumping of dead horses is, worse (to my mind) are those who sell cheap because they want to avoid the costs of slaughter and disposal.

One solution would be more horse abattoirs and I think that solution is becoming more acceptable to the general public as they realise the alternative.

A micro chip and passport are now a legal requirement. But getting anything like this to work efficiently in the horse world is virtually impossible because of it's chaotic nature.

A passport is a legal requirement as is a microchip now that is done at the same time as the passport. The snag is that the official body who regulated the passports was shut down as a money saving cut. The only regulated passports now are the ones run by the breed societies which means that anything not registered with a breed society isn't officially recognised and there are so many breed societies that there is no real consistency to regulation. For those of us that passported our horses, if they were to be stolen for instance, the passport offers no help at all now as its not regulated. Just costs a lot to comply for no real reason.
