Rearing Calf Values

Hasnt knocked the calf trade as much as you would think but any market with large numbers of calves £240-260 would buy you a good average type calf. They are dearer at markets that only get 10-20 than those that get 200+ p/wk

Hasn't changed at all if anything more people are buying in calves hoping that by the time they're ready to kill in 18-24 months the price will be decent again. If you're going to buy any buy angus x with named sires easy to sell on and the premiums make them look a lot more attractive even when the job is sh!t like it is at the minute.

Paid less than that last Nov, doesn’t add up.
Better sitting on a beach relaxing than working for less than nowt.
imputs would be cheaper now and once or if the beef price rises the calves will jump £50-100 overnight so its swings and roundabouts. Neighbour buys a batch of fortnight old calfs in around october every year for £200-£280 and sells them as strong stores 22-23months later straight off the grass and it tops his pension and sub up nicely. Apart from there first winter they eat nothing but haylage and grass and usually average about £950-1100
