Rearing Calves

Hello all, Thinking if rearing calves from april onwards once shed is empty , Thinking of getting some bb, aa, lim x heifer calves (if I can get them at a reasonable price) and take then up 6months, how much roughly per head would they clear by selling at 6 months. Thanks

True I was able to purchase weanling for hereford x and sim x for £200 last year so I was thinking £100 - £130

On Current average calf and weanling prices ive seen , you would buy your calves at for av £265 and if reared tidy you would get £385-£450 weaned. Unless you could get on a rearer scheme that paid a better fixed price

Better off keeping them till 12 months. 6 month stirks usually don't make much more than calf price.

I agree, its very tight margins unfortunatly
