Recurrent conjunctivitis

I have a ram that keeps getting a recurrent eye infection. Starts off with a watery eye and then progresses to cloudy, light sensitive and looks miserable with it. It responds to opticlox and alamycin and clears up for a few months and we think we’ve cracked it, then comes back, always in the same eye. Doesn’t seem contagious as the other ram he lives with is always fine, nor did the ewes get it at tupping time last year. I’m getting to my wits end treating it now so am contemplating culling him after tupping which would be a shame as he’s still young. I’m wondering if it’s an old scratch that is getting irritated by flies or windy weather? Just wondering if anyone has had a similar situation and what the outcome was really :grumpy:

Not quite a tup but I'm going through the same thing with my Lab bitch, turns out to be a blocked tear duct that goes between the eye and nasal canal. Her father had the same watery eye thing.

Was that surgery to fix? I guess it’s a plausible reason if the duct gets blocked and infected the eye will become sore and inflamed... will speak to the vet this week as they’ve seen and treated him several times now whilst on the farm for other bits and bobs

Her father just lived with it, only watery eye, never went to infection. The daughter is only a couple of years old so vet reckons she may grow out of it, I have my doubts.
