Red diesel additives

Had a problem with a new tractor throwing diesel codes.
Changed filters and the inline filter was full of sludge. Even since servicing, it blocked again.
Approx year old plastic tank with filter so not necessarily dirty diesel blocking filters but on reading up I wondered about too much of this bio fuel mixed in?
Do many of you use additives and if so what make and exactly what should I be looking for?

There's been reports the last few weeks of diesel fuel quality issues. It's been reported to the NFU and have also heard about it from my local buying group, AF.

There's some recent threads here on TFF about the issue. You may well be affected....

Not sure if it will cover the dodgy fuel issue above but I used marine 16 to kill the slimy diesel bug in our tank. It went through all the machines too and cleared the bowls/tanks. Changed filters and not a problem since.

Back in my old days when I worked for a fuel company, I found that bio diesel can cause some issues with filters and lines. This was more common in the colder periods though.
Additives were used to extend the life of the oil and stopped the growth partical forming.

This doesn’t make good reading. Bulk tank is just about empty so I’ll get some additive to put in to try from now on. I’ll get a new filter for the bulk tank too. (y)

In a nut shelI think this is about the situation;

Modern diesel is now having bio diesel added to it. (Eco friendly you see)

Modern tractors especially don’t like this, filters block quick and reports of whole farms being shut down. I heard one farm was replacing all filters every 100 hrs and filter suppliers can’t keep up.

Solution is hard, don’t think orgional spec can now be bought, not sure what additives can be used to help. Modern stuff tends to freeze up easier in the winter too.

If you find a solution please share!

Bio diesel content of all diesel is now up to 7%

We've just had a fuel sample lab tested and indeed it came back as 6.6% FAME.

I would suspect this is the issue, whilst bio is more likely to attract moisture and algae growth it also has a cleaning effect in your tanks and seems to take every bit of muck into the filters.

Seems to be a problem where you have paper cartridge type filters-have been changing the square pre filter on our MF 6490 every 100 hours recently. Also had paper in line filter in our old maxxxum-this was also blocking and collapsing after only a few hours. A metal gauze filter seems to have cured this.
