Renault 90-34 brake unit/pads

question for you Renault boys:

I replaced the slave cylinders recently and the brakes were adjusted. Since then I’ve had problems with the brakes binding. I backed them off at the adjuster, but then the brakes were crap. there is also a grinding noise from time to time, so me thinks there may be an issue with the pads.

Are these brakes ok to open up and see the pads? looking at the paint on the brake unit it looks like it might not have been opened before. I see they are oil immersed, so wondered how much oil will come out of the drain plug, the back end of the Renault holds over 50 litres, so want to be prepared for how much oil might come out!

she has done 8000 ish hours.

I replaced a brake seal on my 70 34 recently which has rod brakes and I needed about 15 litres to bring it back up to the level on the dip stick. I think you would need to drain a fair amount out of the tractor.

I’ve since found that one of the slave cylinders which was fitted last year has failed (grrr) so I will replace that to start with, then decide on whether to do the pads.

keeps me out of trouble!
