Renault Temis 630 Z Running Hot

As title, the cooling system seems to be unable to cope with the power.

It's a six cylinder turbo Iveco engine, 135 hp. Gauge getting a bit close to the red for my liking and air cleaner plastic duct has started to melt under the bonnet as its getting a tad warm under there.

Soldiered on in a lower gear to keep off the red. But it would go a lot faster. Pulling 3m stubble cultivator 7 legs in some very tough land. Rad as clean as a whistle and blows through. Coolant level OK. Fan blowing pretty well.

Anything known to cause issues before I give go through the system? Will try flushing, thermostat, check water pump etc, all the usual but just wondered if there were any known problems. Thanks.

I would suggest fitting new thermostat and filling with correct amount of coolant mix, But i bet the rad is chocked up with dust, spray some TFR on it and give it a steam clean. blowing it out with a airline never gets it right clean. hope that helps

As above - also invest £20 in an infra red thermometer and have a poke around. This will instantly identify:

a) if the dash gauge is accurate
b) if the thermostat is stuck closed - engine block temp v outlet temp
c) if the rad is either blocked with dust externally, or if there are passages internally blocked.

And a good steam clean of the fins is the best medicine you can give a rad. Essential to aim the nozzle directly at it though. Airline is crap.

is the fanblade clean ?? a dirty fan blade caused problems on our JD 2040 .... is the bottom hose warm or hot when it is working heavy?? but be careful
has the engine been uprated??
is the engine very dirty?? because dirt will prevent heat getting out
is engine oil cooler working ok ?
some years ago I was on the way home from Welshpool market in our Mazda pickup when the temp gauge shot up and I opened the windows and turned the heater on full and in just a few seconds the gauge went down and the problem was a faulty thermostat

I never saw the temp gauge on our 630Z ever go above 2/3rds even when flat out on a 4m power harrow.

Id say it was at about 3/4. One division away from the red line. I eased off a bit at that point. I didn't want to find out what would happen if I kept the power on. Red light didn't come on though. In my experience temperatures usually stay somewhere fixed. If they start rising from the standard running temp then means the system isn't coping.

Plenty of power and pulls like a train but a bit limited by temperature issues at the moment.

I'll give the system a birthday.

Getting plenty of diesel, no restrictions?
90 degree elbow on the pressure washer, corners will be the worst, do it in the opposite direction.
Lock the fan while testing.
Pull a pipe off (if you can) to feel the impeller still on the water pump shaft.

Thinking of a temis 610. It's giving an iveco 5.9 .is it possible that is the same engine as the 100 90 fiat?
Whats the verdict on these Renaults. This one has 8000 hrs on the clock but looks very straight. What should I look for in terms of possible problems or maintenance.

We ran one for several years up until about 14 months ago basic but worked. Ours gave very little issue apart from the carrera front axle which was made of cheese.

It’s still going with it’s new owner who is chuffed to bits with it by all accounts.

Still baffled by the overheating problem.
Took water pump off. Rotor is firmly attached to shaft. Can see through radiator very well though I will pressure wash it out of the machine.
I did renew thermostat last year. In a pan of water it doesn't seem to open that quickly. The water is just coming to the boil when it starts opening.
Seems odd that the shiny metal disc closes the pipe against the pump as the thermostat opens. Presumably the pump pressure opens the shiny disc against its spring. Can't seem to fit it the other way up anyway due the triangular bit that sticks in round the periphary of the housing.

No the disc closes off the recirculation port as the stat opens to force water to the rad rather than around the block

OK Thanks, I'll go and have another look at it. Checking all possibilities. It gets nearly on the red, not really working that hard then takes ages to cool down with a cold bottom hose and hot top hose. Thought it would be pump or stat but can't seem to find anything wrong with either at the moment. Iveco six cylinder.

Sounds like a blockage, that is what the thermostat does it blocks the water until the engine warms up. Id run her without any thermostat and see if she still heats up.
If it does then you have a blockage somewhere in the cooling system. Is it possible that a piece of plastic or something could have found its way into the radiator or maybe a piece of gasket. Could it be malicious? 🤔. Your a lucky man to own a temis. I don't know where they all went. I never see any for sale or anywhere.
If she runs OK without the thermostat then you need to go shopping for a different one.
One that opens earlier at lower temperatures
