Research on the Impact of the Ban on Bee-Harming Pesticides and What is Next in Farming.

Hi all, I am a student at Imperial University London trying to understand how the banning of bee-harming pesticide has affected your farm and trying to come up with the next generation of the drone-based precision pest control system. It would be amazing if I could have a chat with you about this problem and try to include your input into the project! Please let me know if you are interested in taking part in the project. Meanwhile here is a quick 5 mins survey that you can answer!

Perhaps you’d like to give them their proper name of Neonicotinoids rather some made up tabloid nickname?
It’s highly debatable whether they harmed bees.
The broad spectrum insecticide that replaced them certainly harms bees.
Oilseed rape is now impossible to grow profitably for many farmers in this country. It has been abandoned as a crop in the much of U.K. with the void filled by rapeseed from other countries....that has been treated with Neonicotinoids. Genius.

Hi there,

Totally, and what you said about oilseed rape is exactly why I am doing this research so that the spoiled public know how they were able to have affordable access to food.
I am trying to design an autonomous drone system for farmers to cope with the changes in policies regarding Neonicotinoid/Bacillus Thuringiensis and other Colony Collapse Disorder inducing pesticides.

Thank you for your comment!

Sincerely,
Robert Yu

Bee harming pesticides? Do you mean neonicotinoides? Nothing like a bit of impartiality amongst those doing research.
How about looking at the highly flawed research that got them banned.
Hi there,

I apologise for the poor title. Unfortunately, the papers passed around in the academic world throw the term around too much. That is exactly why I am here in this forum to research your side of the story/ the true side of the story! It would still be great if I can get your responses on the topic by answering the survey, and if you wish to send an email to [email protected], it would be great!

Nope, it’s obvious you have a prior opinion, and your title is indicative of flawed opinion gathering rather than research. Suggest you go back to your academic supervisor and admit your error and start again properly.

Hi there,

Thanks for the response! I think it is certain that I am ignorant of the frustration the current policies has caused to the farmer, and I sincerely apologise if it has offended you.
It is a great idea that I should be bringing the information I have received here to the many people who have not yet been educated on this matter! Please understand that sometimes the popular papers are, unfortunately, people outside the industry's first step on understanding the problems. Please email me at [email protected] if you wish to participate further in the project!

Thank you,
Robert Yu

How can I possibly participate in the survey when the first few questions are as they are?

if you’d kindly answer my question in post 8 that would help.

@Highland Mule I have reported your post #8.
You have accused another forum member of being a child abuser on a public platform. Unless you have reasonable grounds this is highly offensive and defamatory.

Fair comment, but it’s merely a play on words, with no correct answer. I’m using it as a linguistic tool to mirror his own offensive questionnaire. Have you read the survey question I quoted above my question?

Happy to change to “have you stopped beating your wife?”, if that helps.

It was a bit of an exaggerated example but to any adult it's obvious what your point is.

Those offended want to be offended and take the opportunity to be offended.

A drone isn't going to do anything .. now a parasitic wasp might .. where did I put my DNA splicer ?

I have read his questionnaire and declined to participate as I believed it to be mid worded and misinformed. However I don’t think that any personal accusations were made of horrible criminal behaviour against anybody.

However, I do apologise if the survey is quite offensive. I choose the words that BBC used to describe the issue! I take full responsibility for this and it's understandable that he was quite emotional. Growing up Asian in western countries we have heard anything haha.

If you’re not culturally aware of your survey participants then it’s all the more important you get assistance from your supervisors. Shame on them for letting you down so badly.

I would love to hear more of your opinion on why the drones may not be sufficient! I think it is possible that very early detection of larvae and precise usage of pesticides on flea beetles, could potentially help farmers.

Thank you! It is understandable that this is quite a touchy subject to talk about, and it has impacted many people's livelihood! We students need to be shouted at sometimes.
Regarding the misinformation, sometimes that is where research starts and hopefully I can become more informed in the process!

No, you just don’t get it. You need to delete that survey and start again. No meaningful or useful research is ever going to come from what you have there.
