rev counter not working MF375

As of the title, in the last few days the rev counter has been taking a few seconds to jump into life when the engine is switched on but has now stopped working totally. I am aware that this works off the alternator and have had that checked, also the ignition light is working as I have been told if the bulb has gone that will affect its working. Has anyone any idea what to look for next? The tractor can be used but there are many jobs where it is good to know just how much it is reved up.

Thanks for the replies, classic cutter are the teminals in the picture the ones you are refering to? The battery charge light works as it should it's just the rev counter.

i don't recognise the plug but ours is an early tractor and there are two rubber plugs on the clutch side of the tractor on the bonnet support the terminals were corroded which took out the rev counter and the ignition light did not glow when switched on cleaned them up and its working fine it may be worthwhile to check any plugs as the tractors are 30 years old

Thank you for the replies, I've just had the plastic terminals to pieces and squirted them inside with some electrical contact cleaner but it hasn't worked. I will have to follow the wires further tomorrow. You are right about the age this is E reg and it was 1987 when I got it. I have to say that it has been more reliable than some of the newer stuff I have where there is zero chance of doing any thing yourself.
