I am a little waery of thius thread as some of the comments are blatantly racist, however we need to recognise the big problem behind the argument for allowing workers in, as pointed out in The Times today, it is a giant Ponzi scheme. Since the 1950’s we have been importing more and more people to do these menial jobs of fruit picking but more importantly caring and cleaning particularly to look after our old and frail. However now those earlier immigrants are needing their own carers and so we import even more. This cannot go on forever !
perhaps we should look more carefully at how some of these jobs can be done particularly in the care in trhe community sector which is incredibly wasteful, many patients have 3 or more carers and I understand some have up to 15 full time carers this makes no sense at all

I too am getting a little weary of this thread, it’s gone way off topic last few pages, really should be in a thread of its own………….quite probably in the politics section

Im sure you would feel different if a half a dozen 24 year olds claiming to be 16 moved in next door to you, no paper work to prove otherwise. Would you let your young daughter show them around the local attractions just to welcome them to out hospitable country.
In my personal experience, and I can only speak about the one that I know of, lying about how old they are is about the least devious thing they are prepared to do. I don't doubt that there are many needy cases and some of them may even be genuine, but a few at least, are here for a free ride, our benifits system is the holy grail and they will do anything to get here. Anything apart from going to a British embassy and applying for asylum the correct way. They aren't ignorant and they certainly aren't stupid, despite what the language barrier may indicate.

This is the trouble as soon as imigration is mentioned the race card gets thrown out ,

it's not racist to want to protect your borders and (try to 🙄) control who comes into your country ....
As long as you don't discriminate by race how is it racist?

Well, I’ve had enough of where this thread has gone and reported it to the moderators.
What if anything they decide to do will be up to them but personally I think most of the recent comments do not belong on this thread and should be deleted.
For those who believe the current direction is worthy of debate, I suggest a new topic is formed elsewhere
No offence to anyone who has commented recently, I do understand how easily threads do stray off topic, just I don’t think this is the place
