Roadside advertising, how much to charge & do you need planning?

A local pub/eating house has asked if they can put a couple of advert signs in our field. One would be 1.5m x 1m approx, the other one a bit smaller. These would go alongside an A road & be about 400m & 800m before their pub. What rent should I charge & is planning required?

I would go for a free meal every so often rather than invoice them.

Planning is required for a fixed sign but IIRC if you put them on a trailer there was a loop hole do you didnt.

Years ago father rebuilt a roadside hedge using bottles laid flat between the stone to spell out the name of the village pub.

Council made him take it down as it was a "danger to traffic"

I’d go with free beer .. esp if the sign is genuine and the barstaff like this:

Thank you all for your replies, I was originally thinking of a discount off meals or free meals for payment.
But learning from the above posters that it will need planning is good to find out now rather than later as I assume that it would be me as landowner that could be fined.
I shall tell the pub owners that & see what they say.
