Might be buying some rolled oats off a mate this winter to feed some cattle but both of us are unsure of a price per tonne. Anyone know what the going rate is?

Whatever the price of oats is plus £12-£15t for rolling. At a guess somewhere between £130-£150t. Why do you want to roll oats to feed cattle, they can be fed whole.

For some reason I had it in my head it was up to 6 months whole and then after needed to be rolled. I don’t normally feed anything but would like to get my pedigree heifers a bit bigger for bulling so they calve at 2 years old.

We do exactly the same but mainly to quieten them down a little. I think you’ll need something more to aid growth. We’re not too fussed about little cows as long as they can look after themselves. Big heavy cows are ok but you can’t fit so many in a yard.

edit: not rolled. The cost of doing so outweighs the benefits.
