Rolling Cover Crops

Location
Cambridge
LAst year I din't roll, this year I did. I left some bouts unrolled, and some rolled at slower or faster speeds. I can't see any difference, regardless of what I did.

Is there a point, other than "it's cheap so why not"?

Didn't roll mine as we had so little soil disturbance thought the breaker rings might encourage a flush of competing weeds, the results however show how important individual coulter depth control is and how poor the Horsch is even on realy very level fields!!!!

My thinking was lead by the fact that where we drilled wheat into green foot tall just sprayed of rape last year we had great results except brome survived the glyphosate as it was shielded by the rape plants (sprayed pre-drilling) Just got my mindset wrong here as will be sprayed of at Christmas plenty of time to spray again:oops:

same as some of the poorer establishment with the horsch is operator error different soil types in one field needed different settings when DDing will have to try harder next time, should have taken more notice of Wills comments that settup is the cause of many failures.
