In the right soil they are ok but they do smear the bottom and fine particles can wash down and make the problem worse. In the wrong soil type or if it is wet it will make lovely porridge. A power harrow wont smear as mush.
Not too keen on ploughing but as I build sub-soilers I would say that.

its the same with any cultivation tool used in the wrong conditions/timing ...not good for the soil i agree.

Ive a 3 metre one but the spike have been worn down to a few inch now still does a very good job tho

And when I was putting some Gamecrop in discovered they do a good job of destroying rushes just stick tractor in bottom gear and go straight into them

Howard made several different duty versions of the rotovator, seeing that there are about 4 to 5 different sizes of blades available. Also supprising how cheap the blades are! No excuse to run with broken or missing blades, but its a machine pulled out of the nettles and used evry few years.
