speaking to someone today about last harvest and he was telling me how they sprayed of headlands of 2 different wheat fields when it came to cutting them they cut middles first as they were 2% lower moisture than the sprayed of headlands have never herd that before would have expected sprayed of areas to be dryer anyone else found this

I'm guessing they sprayed the headlands because they were green (grass) and were still green at harvest also trees and high hedges make a big difference then again rain may have followed the sprayer !

Headlands only sprayed of as middles kept for seed no particular problems with weeds on headlands or cover from trees and high hedges all their cereals sprayed of as matter of course fields were cut in a decent spell of sun but moisture samples taken from various parts of fields showed roundup areas 2% higher this headland was over 60feet wide round 2 different fields on 2 different parts of farm why would this be

What growth stage was the crop sprayed off at? How long between spraying & cutting? Weather conditions & temperature between spraying & harvest? All factors to be considered.

Sorry don't know all those details but what ur saying isit was just timing or weather conditions so there could be a lot of roundup being used to ripen crops which is actually a waste of time as if they had been left undone at that time of harvest up hear we had had a good warm sunny spell of weather it would have been sprayed of about 2 weeks

So there's some doubts then?

I have used glyphosate to bring harvest forwards or kill off greenery in the crop dozens of times. Never had a failure yet unless the crop had gone beyond the point of 30% moisture when it won't take the chemical in & isn't necessary by then anyway.

Never happened here. Always the other way around.

it would have been sprayed at around the correct time in a good settled spell of weather it's not a case of it not working it actually did something it didn't allow the grain to dry out as quickly as none sprayed area why would this happen would have liked to have been able to give him an answer next time c him don't really want to say you cocked up putting it on he won't take that to well haha

If your water is particularly hard rather than just high ph then that may affect the Roundup.
Contractor I know reckoned he only saw Roundup work properly after harvesting rainwater.
You can achieve similar results with acidifier or ammon sulphate as in roundup max.

roundup does take quit a long time to work 2 to 3 weeks
headlands are normally later ripening because of overlapped seed fertiliser and spray as well as shaded areas and also ins and out of the sprayer which have more green damaged plants

if when spraying roundup the wheels take out all the green grains in the tramlines due to `rolling them has a bigger effect than the roundup unless the field is very weedy or very thing crop stand with a wide spread of growth stages

If you are worried about round up resistance in weeds pre harvest is the first spray to be cut out to prevent it

patience is an acquired skill that is essential on the most cost efficient farms
