Sandcrack

As above have a cow with a sandcrack in a front foot. She is very lame. I have blocked the other claw which has helped hugely. The crack has travelled
The full length of her outside claw. I have trimmed up through the claw becomes soft near the top. Anything else I can do for her? I have very little experience of such conditions.

Ask your local farrier for advice? Can the crack be clipped or hot branded to join it?

There is a fair bit of stuff published on this, shouldn't be too had to find.

From memory, lameness in these cases generally comes from secondary infection such as ulcers. So just make sure it's not that.
Then blocking, pain relief, limit walking distance, etc.

As an equine foot person I agree that infection/abscessing behind the crack is often the cause of lameness and it's important to get rid of that and then keep the foot trimmed in balance so that uneven pressure doesn't keep the crack opening up.

@lazy farmer

Field Paste might be useful. Ideally you'd clean the crack and any hole underneath, dry off and then smear with the Paste. If you can wrap the claw with the Paste in place so much the better. Check and re-paste every couple of days for a couple of weeks. It's really good stuff - anti-bacterial and anti-fungal, so treats most of the common causes of foot infections.
