Sciatica

Good morning looking for sympathy more than anything. MRI yesterday and doc says to do nothing other than rest.
At 26 I'm too young for surgery on my slipped disc according to this pr*ck doctor.
The painkillers are getting less effective every day, I know I'll get addicted to them.
This is only day 11 and apparently it'll be a 3 month recovery

Been there. Got the T-shirt.
Knackered my back at 25.
(Prolapsed intervirtbral disc)
Had ct, mri's, useless doctors, etc etc.
Cortisone eppidurals got me going back then, after I'd been sat around for ages.
Over the years I've tried physios, ostiopaths, chiropractors and acupuncturist.
Find yourself thru recommendation, someone who doesn't wrench you about, but helps you build core stability etc .
I've had a fantastic chap for the last 10 years, who's kept me going.
I don't know what exactly you've been told to do, but you'll loose muscle tone if you sit around too much, which won't necessarily help

My wife slipped two discs last year and the wait time for a surgeon was 4-6 months. We found a local clinic who offered idd therapy and within two weeks of treatment she was walking without crutches and most the pain and sciatica was gone. 6 weeks later she was normalish.

When she finally saw the surgeon he saw no need to operate.

That sounds really interesting, how does it work

Look for an Alexander Technique teacher https://alexandertechnique.co.uk/ a teacher will help you re learn how to use your body in a way that is "good", not a quick fix but long term works far better. I had lessons years ago by a teacher, who fell on the cliffs and damaged her back, surgeon told her the only option was an operation, but she worked on herself and recovered. I can't recommend the Alexander technique enough. There are teachers all over the country.

I slipped 2 discs in my lower back in my mid 20s. Had sciatica for about 2 years before surgery, now I’m sciatica free but still get back pain and have to be careful.

My advice. Most sciatica will settle down with pain killers, rest, and physio. Some people need steroid injections and surgery is a last option.

Be very careful with random techniques as they are often practised by people with a poor understanding of physiology or proper training. The above link has lots of big words but I wouldn’t trust it.

Qualified physios and Pilates to strengthen your core. Good luck and try and stay positive as pain drags you down quickly.
