Seat for Fordson new Major

Hi I've got a 1954 Fordson new Major with the existing metal seat. Its pretty uncomfortable after a few hours in the field. I've seen a few soft seats for sale but just wondered whether anyone had bought one. The metal seat is not flat, pic below, so I was wondering how a soft seat would fit over this? Alternatively I could change the metal seat itself.

You definitely need to do something about that seat... perhaps change it for a seat from later major

Isn't that a seat from an E27n? ie the earlier High Major...

I see where you're going wrong - all self respecting Major drivers, back in the day, had an old hessian bag on it

We had two Power Majors, on those the seat had a covered cushion, we got a new cover from Dunlop Tractor spares, perhaps they would also sell a cushion?

You could alternatively buy a later deluxe style seat pan, bracket & cushion to replace yours.... or splash out and buy a Major restoride seat, if you have 3-£400 to spare!!

Thanks all. I will look to get a more recent seat pan.

No its not the kitchen It's the garage workshop - but there is a lot of stuff in there from when we moved 5 years ago - you know what its like, we must unpack at some point.

Would any of you guys also be able to confirm what oil is recommended for the engine. I've looked at other threads and seen people talk about CASTROL AGRI MP PLUS 20W-40 but this is no longer available in the UK. I've also seen Mobil 148368 Delvac 1 Diesel Motor Oil recommended. Some people seem to think that the new oils will damage these old engines?
