Seed germination question

We've kept some of last year's barley for using as HSS.

Have tested the germination and it's all low 90%. I know this is fine for seed but why have I lost around 10% germination?

It was dried in bins using ambient air so wasn't cooked.

Would it have anything to do with dormancy period ?

My termination on spring barley was low last year. Planted some wheat which was 83% germ it was on though.

I think the wet weeks on August and Sept did something

You'll always have some degradation of the seed. 100% germ is rare. How was the test done?

90% is low but so was mine this year (94%). A late harvest, wet weather are amongst factors. Did you use glyphosate pre harvest as that can affect germination?

What was the original moisture content? Did it take weeks and weeks to come below 15% ?

Was there any pre-germ? A quick stain test and microscope would show both viable and non-viable pre-germ.
