Should we all be growing varieties from along time ago and never try the new varieties then ?
I like to find a variety that suits my ground and stick with it. I’m currently on the seventh year with the same variety of wheat and 5th on canola. Year three with beans. Lots chase the few percent promised yield increase only to end up disappointed

Dawsum second season here really looked awful last season, but went on to be our highest yielding wheat, don’t let looks put you off.
Got champion and typhoon in the ground for new season this yr, typhoon looks solid now after a slow start, champion on the other hand has looked strong all season but now having a lie down so straw strength is a concern.
New kws zealum has caught my attention for next season.

Bought some certified & treated wheat seed this season, as I was trying a new variety & needed to have bought it from the right source for our PBR payments ( rather than from another farmer )
I usually save my own seed if sticking with the same variety

$1520 / tonne in 1 tonne bulka bags

What are P1 and P2 varieties ?
Provisional.

In the olden days, to get on the list you had to be fully recommended - hence Recommended List. Now, if you look at the *very* bottom for the bit that says "status in RL system" it will say P1 or P2 or nothing. P varieties are not fully recommended but are "provisional". Experience has taught me that 8/10 of these will be flash in the pan / one year wonders.

Cross them all off and you have a much more manageable list to choose from.

I had very high hopes for Dawsum; I’m in the part of the world where extase went wrong last year so I was hoping this would be the next best thing. Very uninspiring looking at it growing but will reserve judgement. Have some Bairstow growing in a trial and that looks fantastic.

Bairstow looks good here as well, very late drilled, but has gone down in places

My bairstow looks good, have a split of it and champion in the same field where I ran out of one seed and switched so will see how they compare. Champion much earlier
