Seed viability

Found some lettuce seeds in the shed in an unopened packet from 1995. Planted them in a raised bed at a high seed rate thinking they have two chances, amazingly the vast majority must have germinated.

Anyone else planted any old seeds with success?

A few years back I found a tin with "saved" runner beans in. I reckon that they must have been there for nigh on 20 years & thinking that they wouldn't be any use I chucked them out on a spoil heap. A couple of weeks later & half a dozen of them sprouted out of about 30 or so.

Ex neighbour when I lived in village bought a packet of seed, 7 in packet, 6 germinated so he being unhappy with his success rate hetook packet back and complain.
He got another packet FOC.

I probably have some dock sees that been buried for 30 years in a couple of fields if you want to come and pick some up and try it ?
