Thanks for the pics. I don’t really have any experience of these, but from what I can tell the PCB is basically what’s called a rotary encoder. It has two Hall effect sensors wired/soldered through to the board - these are the black ‘teeth’ at twelve o’clock and three o’clock on the molded plastic crescent; with two output channels, on the yellow and green wires.

The black collar around the motor shaft is a magnet with alternately spaced north / south poles. As the shaft rotates the magnets poles passing the Hall effect sensor, generate two sets of pulsed outputs, one on each channel.

This generates an output something like this....which is passed to the RDS controller to work out rpm and direction of rotation of the motor.

The questions really are:
- Can it be checked/repaired - depending on what’s failed - probably yes

- Will it be cheaper /easier to get a replacement PCB - it’s a bespoke board, so depends if you can get spares (new PCB or complete with motor) from Spaldings (or RDS) for it

No. They are much worse! More work, same number of staff! I'd go to Spaldings first.
Yes I agree. To be fair its sold by and as a Spaldings unit (although obviously under the skin it’s RDS, which they’re not hiding by keeping their logo on the front).

I guess that Spaldings simply buy them in as a complete (white labelled) product. It’s a test of whether they’ll have a complete stock of all spares or just tell the OP to buy a new seeder drive motor complete.

I take that back after been pushed all round the world . just got hold of Rds Steve from Stroud . who has bent over backwards to help. With A sensible solution as they have test rigs set up just got to pop my motor down tomorrow to check it over and possible pick up s services exchange.unit if need be . Fingers crossed. Yes they have had it before dust gets in and fudges them up.

Hi all,

Of course, it concerns me to read such things, RDS may be part of a larger organisation now but we still have the same dedicated support team and I can assure you, we never let people suffer in silence as appreciate how frustrating it is when you need to be working. Our office phone number is well publicised on this forum (and google!) as are the names of our support team, we are much busier now than we have ever been so unfortunately you may have to wait a little longer but we will work hard to get you going again! I am glad that Steve has got you sorted Case. 01453 733300 by the way!

Back to the original problem, with this system, once the motor has thrown an error, you need to flick the finger switch to go in and out of work again. That will reset the alarm. If it still does it then yes, it does potentially look like a motor fault but either way, hopefully Steve and the team have you going again.

Feel free to come back directly to me if you still struggle.

Motor stall

Reason 1: the manual/electric switch handle is locked, the motor is running but the valve is not moving

Reason 2: the handle is damaged and cannot be switched from manual state to electric state

Reason 3: valve position detection circuit damage treatment 3: replace the valve position plate

Reason 4: bevel gear damage treatment 4: replace the bevel gear
