Selenium for cattle?

Hi,
Following blood tests, some of our cattle are low in selenium (everything else ok) My husband thinks he can remember there being a product that you put in the water trough that releases selenium but I can't find anything more about it. Is there such a thing or would it be just boluses to correct this?

Thanks.

You should be able to find liquid selenium (sodium selenate) somewhere, I can get 20 litres of it from any rural supply store over here. Only use a tiny amount per day per head though, IIRC when I was dairying we used a couple of ml per day to give 3mg/cow

Selenium deficiency here effects young growing cattle the worst. White muscle disease a type of muscular dystrophy very bad thing. We use boluses now but used to use an injection which we haven’t been able to get for some time. Is this still available?

Surely? It is really handy, for example we'd just ramp it up slightly during the calving period to help the cows clean, then ramp it back down afterward.
Same with zinc etc, mineral in the water is the ultimate IMO, you can vary it day-by-day if need be
Yes exactly. Everything needs selenium here otherwise they are at risk of white muscle or at best ilthrift

Hi, Thanks so much for the replies. Mayo have already contacted me through my inbox regarding the water soluble tablets and I'm just awaiting a price. TFF has come good again! Thanks very much and hopefully problem sorted in the simplest way!

We use the Brinicombe Aquatrace Easy calver water soluble pellets. Delivery next day if ordered by 4pm.. As said, selenium, iodine and Vit E. Good product.
