I think £15/hr is the bare minimum someone should expect to pay for self employed labour and at that rate they wouldn't even have qualifications to push a brush never mind be left alone with a pitch fork.
Occasionally I pay someone, with no fencing skill but very good at fetching and carrying, £12/hr which is £2 more then he charges me but I refuse to pay him £10. He should charge more but I'm not in charge of his business, that's his department, so he shouldn't expect me to increase his hourly rate by 50% to £15/hr just because I believe that is the minimum he should charge at todays cost of living. What sort of money would you pay someone on the fencing job, just out of interest?
I agree £15 is the bare minimum anyone self employed should be charging. I know people who are hard workers but maybe not skilled as such charging less.Occasionally I pay someone, with no fencing skill but very good at fetching and carrying, £12/hr which is £2 more then he charges me but I refuse to pay him £10. He should charge more but I'm not in charge of his business, that's his department, so he shouldn't expect me to double his hourly rate to £15/hr just because I believe that is the minimum he should charge at todays cost of living.
On the other hand I know very skilled fencers charging £200/day and getting all the work they want with just a hammer and a tool belt.
