when i planted some trees 16 years ago we sold the carbon rights, 812 tons off 25a over 99 years was the calculation at the time . it seemed like easy add on money at the time but i probably got shafted in the the long term ?

I find it interesting that no one questions selling carbon credits from trees and asks if you only sold credits over and above your own farm carbon footprint. Everyone seems happy for trees to be ring fenced.h

No idea but it seemed like money for nothing at the time as trees were being planted anyway rightly or wrongly 🤷🏼‍♂️

I always thought that planting trees could never be better than carbon neutral so what carbon credits would there be to sell?

Well that is a whole other question and some recent research brought that into question. See here:

I point that everyone seems happy to ring fence woodland as not part of a farm and seel the carbon - even if it was a dairy farm. Yet do the same with say soil carbon and everyone cries foul.

100% I am in favour of farms doing and taking whatever money is on offer. It is not our job to set policy. Its our job to run our businesses as profitably as possible within any legislation.
I thought the same but have now changed my mind.
I will not be selling any carbon credits, why should I support someone, e.g. a F1 racing driver, to fly around the world racing gas guzzling cars but who salves their soul by buying carbon credits. And then has the cheek, as a vegan, to complain about our cows and sheep belching and farting methane.
No, let them change their actions as I am changing mine. Same with big corporations who think they can carry on as they are by bunging us a few quid for carbon credits when it would be better if they changed their practices and sequestered their own carbon.

But if someone is willing to pay for it why should you refuse - Just don’t sign up for too long.
I personally don’t see an issue with selling carbon. It makes you more aware of yours and you can choose who you sell to.

However we have refused some
big advertising contracts on here and other media companies think we are mad. So it’s up to the individual how they run their business.

l can't see it to be a sensible thing to do, when they haven't 'agreed' a standard way of measuring a credit, PPI, looks like repeating itself.
It will eventually become a trading item, with normal rules and regulations applying to it, l would rather wait till then, my mind could be corrupted, if the £'s were high enough !
