Selling power direct

We produce a fairly constant supply of renewable power. We are currently selling it at a fraction of what we have to purchase on another distant sites. The direct connection would be impossible to install. This got me thinking - is there a company who would buy our power so we could use some at our remote site and the remainder could be sold direct to a large consumer with high consumption using the infrastructure already in place. The grid!

yes you can do peer to peer but you will still have to pay the DNO and the Grid. F&S specialise in it but possibly there are other companies who look at it.

Re selling peer to peer, just steer well clear of Urban Chain. We sadly signed with them for a year and they’ve been an absolute shower of poo. I’ve had to fight tooth and nail to get money out of them (a considerable amount) and still haven’t got everything we’re owed yet.

Hi @maen,

What you're describing is a sleeved corporate PPA. The mechanics of which only make sense on very large scales, for both generation and consumption, due to the balancing and grid charges mentioned by @Exfarmer. These agreements need to be paired incredibly closely, as the consumer needs to know that they require the power as an when it is generated, as they'll have to pay for it whether they need it or not. Usually, we see agreements of this nature being utilised by companies such as data centres, who require a continuous load at all times.

On a smaller scale, there is P2P as @Exfarmer has mentioned. F&S for example offer an extra £10/MWh if they are able to pair you with one of their consumers. However, this is not guaranteed, and you'll only get the extra £10/MWh should they be able to find a suitable match. The rest of the power is covered by a normal export PPA, which we'd always recommend conducting a thorough tender on, as F&S may well not be the mot lucrative, leaving you to weigh up the risk/reward of the extra £10/MWh.

Agreed... we were dazzled by the headline numbers and are struggling to get the £ promised from the outset.

We are getting our extra £10/MWh through F & S on around half our wind export as we are paired with an office block in central London! As we already use a fair bit before export ourselves (especially in the winter) which is obviously the most profitable option of all, it works well.
