Shared rent agreement

Have a piece of ground just down the road that a local horse haylege man uses to bale 2 cuts of hayledge a year. He puts slurry on early April an mows June an then again late August early September. After this it is left till April to do the same again.
Roughly 10-12 acres an he pays £800 a year.
My proposal is to approach him an suggest that as soon as his last bales leave the field could I use it for 20-30 sheep until he wants to slurry it the following April.
I would pay £400 an so would he.
Currently my sheep are eating through a £20 bale a week an the field there in is sodden an nothing left for them to eat.
As you can imagine after the last cut there's a nice bite for them to eat on there which gave me the idea.
Would there be benefits for him in this deal I.e added muck an p&ss to the ground or would it knock the amount of bales he gets the following year?

I think he would benefit as the grass certainly should!
BUT whatever you do make sure you get landowners permission. You will need them on side as much as haylage man!
My tip would be to play dumb regarding the rent. The haylage guy doesn't need to know that you know how much he pays. Why not offer £200 as a starter??

It's a shame you don't want anyone to know where you are :(, if you filled in a LOCATION in your profile then maybe you might get a few offers of grazing.

Just been on my profile to put where I am but doesn't seem to give me that option. Im in South cheshire.
So know one thinks it will effect production?

wont effect production, be better as less if any dead grass in bottom. I would say paying half his rent is probably in his favour. 200 to 300 should be more fair as he is having most of the grass. But if its saving you a good chink and you are happy then you can always come up to your 400

I think it will affect his production. I find that sheep grazing after mid Jan limits grass for hay. Between his last cut and then you are doing him a favour by reducing the amount of dead grass he'll have in the bottom of the sward and therefore you will improve his grass quality. I get the sheep grazing ( not my sheep) finished by mid Jan at the latest.
