Shared water supply

We have a shared water tank on the farm supplying the farm, my own house and the farm house which the previous owner decided to keep when he sold the farm. Said farmhouse owner has recently been complaining about the quality of the water having had a water test done and discovering the water has e-coil (I was aware of this 15 years ago and have an ultraviolet filter)

The upshot of this is that he is of the opinion that the tank needs work done to it, my opinion is that the water will never be the best of quality as it originates from various springs in a peat bog, it is a plentiful supply although a little dirty at times and I believe that no mater what is done to the tank and surrounding ground the water wont actually improve.

Does anybody have any experience in similar situations and where I will stand with regards to deciding what happens?

Presumably, where you stand will be down in writing somewhere linked to the sale / splitting of the property.
Regarding the future why not just crack on and get a borehole sunk? Chances are that the water will be of better quality and reliability.
If neighbour agrees to a 50:50 split on costs even better.
Borehole would probably be in the £10-15k region. A good investment for any farm.
