Shearing more than once across the summer

Does anyone shear more than once across the summer for any reason? Or have they in the past? If so what was the thinking behind it. I have been given a stack of rough marshes for the summer where there is a load of bramble, little bits of deadly deep water and mature willows. So my thinking is flys, bramble and water are a bad mix for dry ewes with a fleece but OK for freshly sheared dry ewes. No one else wants them so I can stay for nothing until November. So is it feasible to shear every 2-3 months to take advantage?

Are you doing them yourself or paying someone? Can't see any problems really, if you like hard work ;)

Have done for the past 4 years, once in June then September with Romneys, however just feel I'm buying shares in a race trailer!
So now gonna go once in early September to keep them clean on roots

We used to shear Romney ewes pre lambing with a cover comb in early/mid April and then shear ewes and lambs at weaning in August. Worked a treat for us here although not always easy to catch that pre lambing window. Bye bye wool related problems, just two shearings to focus on when shearers weren't busy elsewhere.

That said, we have been 100% Easycare & Exlana for a few years now and never looked back. We make it to the Highland Show every year now instead of occasionally because shearing always clashed!

How much cover do the combs leave on ? I was thinking about this last night. It's the shedding the lambs off that slows the job up. If I could clip the Romneys before lambing, then at weaning, that might work. I double clipped last year in may then end Aug. I reckon as I have the wool, I might as well make the most of it ! Saying that , I think it was your open day I came too last year to look at your shedding ewes n Welsh black cows! Cracking visit , thanks !(y)
