The time has probably come to start to use eid more so has anyone used the above with a stick reader if so how have you got on......?not looking to record large amounts of individual data yet just batches for med records movements ect, enough to pass inspection's easyer basically

Also don't want to spend loads i like the shearwell stick reader and have always used there tags but the "flock" software seems almost to cheap. Iv looked at some others but my mind remains totally bamboozled as to which is best just want something cheap easy and reliable to get started

Last week I bought a shearwell stick reader and I am just using there stock move express app on my phone which works with nlmd online. It's £30 for the year to record meds and all statutory stuff . It's fairly revolutionised my system. I can't say much yet but so far I'm happy.

Looked at "farmmatters" and they seem very keen to help but not sure I am not paying for a load of stuff I don't need or won't use not saying there is anything whatsoever wrong with it just maybe to good for me at the moment!

can you log on to that like an msn account from a number of different machines? If you can do this can you upload the tags from your stick onto the nlmd page using any computer or just one specific one? Sorry for the questions

You can log onto nlmd from anywhere yes. To get numbers up I think you connect your reader to your phone with Bluetooth and sync your phone with nlmd to get number on it. I think @exmoordave will know more.

Anyone using Farmplans offering?
Have been using their cattle programme for 15 years but not got anything for sheep eid and time has come when I should.

Would make sense to have both from same supplier so do I upgrade from cattle to livestock manager or look elsewhere for both?

Is it better to pay a one off fee and own the software rather than pay a subscription? Surely with a subscription u risk price rises and losing data and support if company go under?

I think so personally but everyone has their own views, I suppose you get updates in your subscription but we get that from tagie anyway, ring them up with a software problem and a new disc will be in the post!

Hi all, just to clarify ... the reason we offer a subscription service is that we "offer a service". We are constantly improving the software based on peoples feedback so that everyone ends up with a program exactly as they want it. This is all part of the service which also includes Cattle, Fields,NVZ and many other features. We release updates as often as every fortnight with improvements and vital legislation changes. The price is £186 per year and has no contractual agreement or tie ins. The price has not gone up for the last 3 years and has no plans to do so. We are an honest ethical company that has been helping farmers for 20 years now with all sorts of issues, legislation advice and even appeals! Because there are no one off costs or contracts you can trial a full version free of charge and without obligation and I am happy to help talk people through it at any time. Anyway always happy to help so feel free to get in touch and visit our website for more information.

And just to make you aware. Your data is your data and on your PC as well as your chosen backup drive. Farm Matters is not an internet based program so if someone decides to cancel their subscription then their data is still accessible and all printable for inspection. I guess its all about what you want at the en of the day and how you value the product and service. There are many options out there from the Shearwell app to the full blown software management programs like Gatekeeper and Muddy Boots. Everything has to have a value and every supplier has to do the number crunching to make it a viable business and cost effective solution. We have and we do.

We have just started to put all 4000 ewes and followers onto the farmplan programme. The main boss man got it in his head he wanted it and so we had it. My advice is if ye want to do basic things get the basic programme and a basic stick reader. It's easy to get more than you need. I'm finding it quite hard but thankfully have tech support. I can say that Shearwell tags and equipment are brilliant so I imagine there software would be aswell.

Farmmatters does what I need for sheep, cattle and medicines. I suppose it is more money, but not what I would call excessive and generally you get what you pay for with very good support.

Got a Shearwell stick reader last week. Link it up to iPhone app and downloads numbers. Links up to NLMD and you get all the reports from there. It does all the basic stuff i want from it and easy to use.

Just got going with this setup as well. Shearwell stick reader app and nlmd. Website. It all seems to work and is easy to use. Support is also excellent when needed.
Felt bit odd scanning tags then uploading to nlmd and scoteid ( done automatically by app) then having to go into office to fill in a bloody samu form and email it away. Surely if we're going to have eid and central database the paper bit could be done away with!

I'v just got the farmworks app for my mobile and does anyone know if/how I can sync the farm works app and the stockmove express app so I can get the list of sheep on the stock move app? As it then I can use ARAMS on the mobile and can also put in medicines purchased? I don't think the stock move will sync with the farm works computer programming or can someone correct me? Thanks

Stock move express syncs with nlmd website. I believe they are making an app for farm works.
