Vets currently inspecting lambs.
Have finally got a placenta to drop off( put ewe in pen till she did. Wish I used my brain earlier to do this)
Seen nearly 2% of the flock abort now and still 5 weeks off due date.
Enzo and toxo vaccinated
Not nice shepherding atm
Wearing rubber gloves and washing hands throurghly.
Still a worry with pregnant wife.
Done a bit of reading up and it seems not much can be done till we find out what strain of abortion it is

Could be Campyleobactor, would your vet consider blanket antibiotic, trouble is even some of the full term lambs will be affected if it's campy.
takes ages to diagnose, I've had it here a couple times and lambing is over before a proper diagnosis.

I know I'd be going with antibiotic anyway, cheap insurance and treat the lameness anyway

It might be Salmonella, which would actually be a relief, if you can identify and remove the source.
It's easily spotted - lambs are aborted enclosed in red afterbirth.

Listeria also a possible cause. I lost a few to what we think is listeria pre Christmas.

Lambing was ok but still work to do to understand the barren rate.

Long acting, even at that it won't cover 5 weeks, probably will have to go again in two weeks

Lambing ewes for a customer getting 4/5 night in one batch aborting they apparently grazed turnips drilled into human sewage do you think there's any correlation to the aborting this is the only group thatwerefedd turnips and are aborting

I feel your pain, had the same here, now its prolapses . Never had as many as this year, mainly ewes carrying twins Plenty of ewes to cull this year.

We are having a similar problem here. I have a batch of 50 ewes inside since the end of January and we have had 5 abort in the last week. Had one today both lambs were born alive but we are still 2 weeks from full term so not much chance of saving the lambs. I will be taking the dead lambs and placenta to be analysed on Monday. Non of the aborted lambs have been mummified. Would injecting the rest of the ewes with Alamycin stop any more abortions?

Last couple years had a few abort, first year was odd bit toxo but mainly salomenella. Last year was a very rare form of bacteria that’s in soil ( can’t remember name), can’t vacinate or really do anything for it. Touch wood none so far this year, but now I’ve gone and said it ........

250 housed four aborted and a stillborn
One week before lambing should start
Vet not to concerned but any more and they want to send it for pm

Does antibiotic help with Campylobacter,thought it was only effective against Enzootic abortion ?
