I saw a sheep double race on Facebook that @NZDan shared it really appealed to be so i bodged one together to try it out, this is a prototype and some day, maybe i will refine it..... It worked really well, rappa kit mostly, iae shedder (hopeless thing anyway) cut up to make the funnel. All sheep through it twice today, once for scan then again for bcs.

what are the advantages of doing it this way?
ou double the length of the single file race, with out doubling the length, as well as allowing the ewes to lead each other. The first one I saw working only had to bars on the center fence one at 250mm and one at 500mm, others Ive seen had them at 3 x 200mm bars so the sheep can see each other.

Modifications I'd make, ditch the rappa race keep the single file section as short as possible, and make the dividing race as see through as possible, the floppy splitter gate looks great, Ive sen two styles, one with a single bar at about 400mm high and one with two bars at 300 and 600mm high.

Thanks dan, i was in 2 minds about the single race, the flap was nearly right but 3 ewes did turn the wrong way so an adjustment is needed. Not bad for the first attempt.

I thought it was bloody good, i'm going to have to get one build my self now.
Haha! Should have taken a video when we were bcs they flew through then as well.
I think I'll fit solid sides on my funnel and make a see through middle race section. Tidy up the entrance a bit then that will do it. Oh and slight tweek on the swinging gate.

Bcs ewes today so double race mark 2 is use. Really pleased with it today, nothing turned round in the funnel and minimal effort needed to put ewes through, keeps stress down for us and the sheep.
This was a run through for a few looking for a handful so not much being shedded off. Excuse the soundtrack young boy wasn't pleased at being left out the pen!

As you have ever rappa kit why not use there parts to make a double race? We got a double, double race on ours wouldn't go back now. Can get a pic if you like.
Not sure what you mean? This double race is made from all rappa kit except the bit of plywood!
Do you mean their double drench race? I want 2 single file races together for filling clamp, weigh crate, shearing race etc. The drench race that they make w spreaders for would be too wide as sheep would turn before the funnel.

They run that great, I've tried a double race in the past but couldn't get them to run like that! Need another go at it me thinks! What length are the two panels between the double race and the ramp? Also what length is the plywood?

Double race is rappa 8 foot panels, plywood is 0.8m, funnel sides are 1.2m. No ewe could turn in the funnel, a hogg possibly could. If i could if have a see through middle panel but it worked really well today!

I used a railed panel in the middle and I had a see through gate instead where you have plywood.
It looks like they think they're sneaking through a wee gap they're not meant to be on yours which makes run all the faster!
Would you still keep the plywood panel instead of a railed gate there?

I'm not sure, i have a rappa swing gate on order for there, it will be railed. The bungee cord is very important imo.

I see what your doing now.
