Sheep ration

After a bit of advice on sheep rations- looking to feed on my ewe lambs this year and also do my own mix having recently acquired a roller mill. I searched yesterday and came across a post byb @spin cycle but now can't find it again :banghead:. Simply put I have a plentiful supply of barley (yes I know some will say you don't need to roll barley for sheep) but am a bit stumped as to working out the energy values and what to mix with it etc to make up the ration.......

I've had the following suggested:

10% sugarbeet pellets
50% oats/ barley
40% lamb finisher pellets

Any advice/ thoughts/ comments and suggestions would be most gratefully received

What's in the lamb finisher. If its a cereal balancer, then no need for the beet pulp, cos it will be pretty well balanced when mixed with barley.
My finishing lambs are getting a mix of roughly 50% whole barley, 35% soya hulls, and 15% soya bean meal. Works out about 14.5% protein, and 11.3 ME. Costing me €40/ton less than lamb finisher ration from the mill. Its working well for me

the barley will be 8-10% protein and about 12.5 mj/kg .....beet about the same but energy more readily available IIRC....if lamb finisher is circa 17% protein then overall you'll be short of protein

for fattening last year i used 2 parts barley to one mvf protein pellet with a splash of beet pulp for rumen,,,,way i work it out is break you ration into kg portions...add up protein...then divide by kg....so my ration 1kg barley 100g protein + another kg barley 100g+ 1kg mvf 300g = 500g protein in 3kg ...therefore 166g/kg...therefore 16.6%:)

use that method for cost also 10p+10p+45p= 65p.for 3kg..or 22p/kg...220/t:)
