She's lambed today, all alive and not a bad size, only problem is she's one titted

Isn’t that the way.😂

I’ve had 4 quads lamb this year. The first had 2 live and 2 dead, the second had the first two coming together & stuck, resulting in 3 live lambs. The third lambed this morning, one rotten, two (small) dead, and a crow stalking the last one so brought her in for messing with.

Only had one quad in the outdoor lambers last year. The ewe lamb from that is in the shed currently, having been the only ewe lamb scanned with triplets. :banghead:

Iv had 5 quad in the last 2 days. They might rear 4 between them, quads never seem to milk well. 🙄
I had a big mule last year rear all 4. 3 were gimmers and I tupped them at 40kg last backend all three are scanned for twins!! The mule ewe has just been turned out with triplets today. Wish I’d 500 of her apart from she jumps out a bit

If only someone could breed a 4 titted sheep
But then I suppose its just more tits to get mastitis in!
There was a chap somewhere actively selecting for 3 fitted ewes, said normally all 3 worked and produced more milk.

Not sure if he's still doing it or not

Dr Alun Davies was selecting for it, mostly in Cambridge ewes. He was measuring milk yield from the ‘front’ quarters and comparing with the main teats at one time, and told me that he had some that would give up to 30% of their milk in the extra teats.
Obviously extra milk yield would drag their condition down even faster, so I’m not sure you’d gain much without an ad-Lib hopper out for them.

Alun retired several years ago, but still runs a flock of Cambridge sheep on the Wirral.

AFAIC any extra teats are nothing but a menace, and I would cull for it. Lambs always latch onto the smaller ‘spare’ teats, instead of suckling properly, just making extra work training them.

211 SuffxMule 181% including 30 empty !
86 Pure Texels 143 % ,lowest ever on the Texels, again higher number of empties.
Scanner said the majority of flocks are having a high number of empties. He also said there is quite a bit of Schmallenberg about.

Tales of ewes carrying an unusual amount of dead lambs, would it be SMELLanberg (they will when they lamb) or bluetongue or just an unusually wet autumn

160% inc ewe lambs and a fair slug of shearlings. Up a bit on last year.

But also far fewer empties than last coule of years.

Scanner man said scans have been all over the place.

I suspect my ewes were in too good a condition prior to tupping, but 160% for me outside lambing is about where I want to be.

We had schmallenberg show up in our culls bloods last year, also a lot of them with dead lambs picked up by the scanner.
Hopefully a better scan this Friday🤞
