Sheep shearing 2019

How are people getting on with shearing? Wool coming off easy?

I brought 20 in yesterday afternoon did 10 wool came off well, had my tea went back out and the next 10 were a nightmare, i put new blades on the shearers made no odds, thought about bringing a group in later today before the rain comes but will the wool be a nightmare to get off again if theyre kept in overnight?

Pays to put them in for the night.
Empty belly keeps them comfier when you bend them, and when you pack them up they'll be warmer overnight than they would be elsewhere, so their skin and fleece will be looser?

Over here, about the only roof we have is for keeping sheep in ahead of shearing - keeps the dew/rain off them for the contractors. (y)

Keeping them in overnight won't make any difference to how the wool comes off - if they're good to do, then they'll be good to do regardless .

If you keep them in, then have you got plenty of room to let them spread out to keep them clean? And be prepared for bad tempered, crabby ewes that are fed up with being cooped up.

I've clipped a small group so far, and they were lovely to do. I'd have thought after the favourable Winter we've just been through that ewes would have been better to shear on average.

Easy shearing this year, wool lifted well, open necks....mules mind but few Dorset’s been good too. Hate keeping sheep in overnight in shed, too much contamination or sit in pee. Bare pasture close by, always got those with sheep ime. then yard them for few hours before shearing. Welcome rain giving me a welcome rest this week.
