Sheep snacker What feed

Just in the process of getting a snacker and looking at what’s best to feed in it?! We are looking at sheep pellet but are afraid it might be to small?!. What’s everyone else using?!

We have just bought a portequip one!. Electrics are just something to go wrong!... we have had sheep on premium ewe pellets and wanting to keep at these rather than a roll....

So their used to finding them? In 2018 I fed 16mm rolls to the ewes but they’d only ever seen barley/oats, they couldn’t find the rolls. For a few day’s we had to mix 1:5 oats:rolls so that they could see them on the floor and it worked well!

Feed in a circle then or against a hedge in loops and force them against it.
I’m snacking some ewes due to lack of grass at the moment, rams and ewes due in a few weeks have never seen the snacker, circled them up with the dogs and then drove around in ever increasing circle around them and by the second day they all had the idea!

They will feed anything. Why would pellets be too small?

It's the Logic one I have with the electrics... I admit I have had to buy a new control box for £250

If you’re feeding on ‘rough grazing’ you’ll get away with putting pretty well anything through it. If you’re feeding on muddy stubble turnip ground, nothing less than rolls, if you want them to pick any of it up.

Oats here, through a Portequip for the same reason of no electrics to go wrong, (and cheaper to buy!) Where I’m feeding silage I blow it through a Lucas, then feed oats on top to reduce soil contamination.
