Shearwell are pretty good. https://www.shearwell.co.uk/

But don't be tempted to buy their marker sprays. I've flung 'em across the shed and nearly burst a blood vessel because the useless fudging things only work if they are upright.

I find the retention of Shearwell tags to be awful now, but where fantastic up to 5 yrs ago. I was all set to change to Allflex this year, then spoke to a few people that were cursing them for the same reasons, so stuck with the Shearwell for another year.
I get foc replacements, but when you get to replacing those free replacements in 4 yr old sheep, you start to wonder how they’v3 messed up so badly on what was a first class product.:(

@neilo do you send them a list with missing/unreadables? I just cut out and retag with new ones at the moment..

Shearwell here. On bought in sheep I’ve had some tags that are horrendous and end up cutting out 75% of some makes - sorry I don’t know the names of them as that’s worn away aswell but very thin looking like a long lamb pellet?

I just cut out and retag lost tags in the commercial flock, recording new tag numbers as I go. The pedigree sheep need to retain their ID numbers though, so I list & order replacements with the same numbers for those.

Allflex / Cox Qwik-eID tags here. Good read rates and very good retention. Been using them since the start, my only grievance is some colour tags seem to lose the printed numbers easier than others... green and orange have been particularly bad (but the tags were put in, in 2012 and 2013 and are still here so maybe I shouldn't complain too much).

For slaughter - Roxan Tagfaster.

Roxan tagfaster double and single slaugter tags. The only sheep that seem to loose tags are tups that i buy that dont have roxan tags or the pet lambs who are putting there heads in and out of creep feeder and other place they shouldnt. Always tag on the front of the ear for double tags and on the back for slaughter tags.

I don’t seem to have a problem with retention but I bought half a dozen ewes 2 years ago and on nearly every tag the numbers have started to rub off- not sure of the brand though. Shearwell seem to be better but a few older ewes with shearwell tags the numbers are fading and they’ve split in 2. I don’t qualify for free replacements as never buy enough tags  yet we get free replacement cattle tags regardless of herd size.

I would not go anywhere near Roxan Rubba I currently have a 30% failure rate ie tags falling out. Last year my ewe lambs had quite a few infected ears and when I rang up about this issue I felt they were not interested.

That’s annoying I was thinking of moving to Shearwell due to Roxan poor retentions and they frequently get my order wrong. How many tags do you have to buy from Shearwell to qualify for free replacements ?

200 the website says. Their retention is good, I’ve only had 1 come out in the past few years, the numbers rubbing off is irritating but not as bad as the brand I was saying about in my previous post.
