Sheep turns the tables on dog!

Last spring. We had an incident with a sheep attacking a dog on the lead, protecting her lambs. A small kind of dog, but nonetheless the woman involved was knocked down and all kind of tangled in the lead trying to defend herself and her animal from a rather determined ewe! My question is what should I do next year? Maybe some warning signs, maybe nothing, I just didn't know if I'd get in trouble for having an agressive sheep in a field with a footpath? Probably worrying too much?!

If you put a sign up warning dog walkers of your sheep you will be acknowledging you have a dangerous animal and be leaving yourself open to all kinds of legal claims In my opinion.
Say nothing and if somebody does make an accusation then laugh it off as being absurd, after all we all know it's dogs that attack sheep not the other way round!

Little off the op, but personally I think it should be law that farmers can restrict acces to walkers if livestock are in afield to protect against damage to stock from dogs and also to protect the walkers/dogs from livestock attack.

You have to do all that is reasonably practicable to prevent injury to yourself, your works and the public; under the 1974 Health and Safety at Work act. The whole 'if you put up signs, you are liable' is a bit of nonsense but actually putting signs up won't change anything. You should definitely have some paperwork somewhere that says you've looked at the risks and decided its best to do nothing.
