Shite day!

You ever have one of those days (i'm sure we all do) ?

First off, got a call, my sheep are out. Got there, ewes and lambs everywhere, scattered all over the place. . . . must have pushed under a fence / gate and then bumped into walkers / dog walkers / joggers. . . . and been run all over the shop, end result, missing five lambs and a couple of ewes, which if past form is anything to go by, i'll never see again. Worst bit is the poor young ewe who had raised a great set of twins, wandering around the field looking for them. Typically all lambs lost are good ones!

Then I got sprayed in formulin. . . . it went in my eye. . . . and in my hair. Then it rained. . . . formulin water ran off my head and went in my mouth. Vomit!

Finally my best dog is hurt, and had to move the mob using the two work dogs. . . . que an hour and a half of swearing and whizzing about on a quad while two dogs ran about not being very effective, lacking the force to bully 1500 ewes and their lambs across a road.

Oh and then the heavens opened and I drove home pee wet through in shorts, on a quad.

On the upside i've got pie and chips for tea. . . . comes out the oven in ten mins, so could be worse!

Lets hope today is better!

And I know, i'm sure lots have worse days!

Was supposed to be in Newcastle by 0930. At 0900 I was leaving home (takes 1.5hour to get there) after having to put up a 30 yard fence because 20, one year old bullocks had flattened it and gone for a wander, correction had a great big scrap into neighbours spring barley :banghead:

To be fair, the rest of my day was not too bad, although I've just got home and now need to go feed some calves :(

Sounds like a thoroughly rubbish day throughout.

I'll drop my dog off next week. He will get those big mobs moving in double quick time! And as long as you put a stop and some sides on him, I won't even charge you!

Are you sure the sheep weren't out because someone had been to nick a few? Heard stories of thieves leaving gates open in the past. The confusion caused by sheep out on the road or different lots mixed up often hides the fact that some are missing.

Hope I'm wrong and that today is a better day @CopperBeech

My sheep were out this morning, on my still to be cut crop of silage grass. It was already pretty flat before but it's going to be a challenging job to get anything like a clean cut with the mower.

Yeah just put pour on onto 500 lambs as a few light showers only was forecast. You guessed it we a had torrential rain for an hour and we have got grass down to bale tomorrow. Bloody sick.
If we were as bad at our job as the met office the country would be going hungry.

DId tbe pie to the trick

Had a nice ewe hogget run down. She'll live but back leg is fecked up, not broken. A poor enough excuse for a road runs through the hill, some locals seem to think it's a motorway given the speeds they do on it, just not safe for conditions - hills, dips, blind spots, narrow.

Picked up my 7th dead pedigree Charollais ewe (over the last week) today. Feckity feckin feck feck.:banghead:
Still waiting on culture results from one I had put down (having found in death throws) and took in for PM, but looking very much like pasteurella outbreak. AI'ing tomorrow, when they'll all be getting a shot of Alamycin LA as they come through.
