Should the frugal be taxed harder

No. Anyone with an ounce of morality saves when they are able to, to ensure that they have something to fall back on during difficult times or when we retire. The alternative is to rely on benefits or for the state to pay for our nursing home fees and carers. Is that really what Starmer wants?

Fair enough paying tax on it, as at present, but an additional tax? No!

Most savings are accumulated out of income that has already been taxed once!

It’s all a bit of a con isn’t it. Build a business up pay tax along the way but then what? Labour doesn’t want you to hand it to the kids even now that isn’t straight forward without tax, if you sell it it’s heavily taxed so that’s not appealing to give half of it away in tax now they are saying if you bank what’s left after tax they will tax the money.

This whole election campaign has been about spending more money and improving services. I’m afraid you could give the NHS a blank cheque and it would still be in the state that it is in. No more tax needs to be collected it just needs spent wisely and sensibly. Anything that is to do with councils and the government an extra 0 is added onto the price, there’s know one that can see when their being ripped off or being charged too much.

I guess the problem is the years of low interest rates have led to a flight into assets as the best place for cash and wealth. I can see council tax rising again and again.

If Starker really wanted the poorest to have more money he could raise income tax thresholds.

As we cant get any growth because of net zero this seems an alternative

Tax is about control of people in a big way
They don’t try to control the big employers now it’s easier to let them off and tax their workers

Has this not been going on for years with nursing homes?

Those that have saved have to pay, those that haven't get it paid by government.
Yes, granny has just died, after spending 200k on nursing home fess . 25k left, and we were just about the stage of selling her house or footing the bill ourselves. Grandad saved a lot of money in his life and they took the lot. There is no reward for being thrifty with you finances
