Cost that to make it !!!!
Thats farming and the fodder trade. You either sit on it and wait for the price to improve , if it dont them keep it to next season, agaist that is the shortage of cash some cant afford to hold on and some need the shed room, last years crazy prices for hay have killed the job , but you cant buck market forces and guys who must have it at auctions, why is hay making close on £100/ ton in Dorset on farm Auctions when it can be bought for little more that £40 in the Cotswolds. Some like buying local i suppose

Folk paying £100/ton this year must be mad! I'm all for being fair but you've got to be fair to yourself as well!

I attended a forage sale on Monday & bought some round bale hay for £18.50/bale , the farmer is just down the road from me & will keep it until I need it so that’s a bonus . He got £47/bale last year so wasn’t particularly chuffed with the price , silly prices last year though .

How can it be produced for less than £100 per ton and show a profit????
It can't really but some just want to clear surplus grass so any money is a bonus.

Very frustrating year for us as horse haylage and hay suppliers. We had poor crops last year. Put the price up 6% which didn't cover the shortage and kept enough for every regular customer. Now we have dropped back to lower price than previously and we lose customers to the "surplus back pocket price suppliers". Loyalty seems very one sided. It won't be happening again except for the customers I know will play ball.

the good years seem to pass me by. £30 / bale most i've ever had for round bale hay, and few bales at that. 80/ ton for straw most i've ever had.
always those with to much land than they know what to do with drag the price down for everyone. but what can you do. just turn money over, and pretend to be awesome businessmen like everyone else ? ?‍♂️
