These were 80x70, but I’m not bothered. Rounds up to hestons, it’s all straw

Rounds suit the other farm better. 2 bales twice a week rolled out and it keeps the heifers well bedded. Easier than moving squares about

I’ve noticed whatever size bales I have to sell is the wrong size!

Lot of straw in a 4'6 bale !

3.5 to the ton and then only if they are baled tight and dry . Dry straw doesnt weigh but is better value ,winter bought straw oft carries water with it mindst depends wether just bedding or part of a ration .

Does anyone have a ball-park figure for Maize sold off the field this year? I sold wholecrop for £1/%DM. Is maize worth more or similar? I tend to do it by tonnage as it all goes over a weighbridge and fairer than an acreage basis.

£35/40 ton for a standing crop?

Heard £45-55 from agronomist but he is looking to sell some not buy

their is a glut of maize this year, even digestors are turning it down, and when there's a glut of maize etc, the price drops

could be a very different story next summer, perhaps a time to clamp it, and sit on it ?

Yes although I don't it as I realise the need for straw for livestock farmer's. https://sharpedgeshop.com/ In fact when the latest combine arrived I removed the straw chopper. Government here call it carbon capture but it's more green washing nonsense which makes not a jot of difference to the environment. Where do they think the manure ends up anyway?
