Skipton dog sale

Any one bought a dog from these sales? Was thinking about going tomorrow, looking for a started young dog or bitch, my own line of breeding has died out and need something decent to replace the last old dog.
Do you get a decent chance to see them working? Do you pay
fees?
I’d prefer to buy at home but any one you ask round here about dogs all say “ oh I’m taking it to skipton”. I’d give as much at home for a decent one and save them the trip.
Looking a stylish smooth coated one incase anyone has one(y)

I’ve a dog out of Skipton sale and he’s done me well. Each dog has a couple of minutes to show what he can do on 3 swale ewes then the bidding starts. The dog keeps working till the hammer drops. Do a bit of research before hand, a lot have YouTube videos. Draw up a shortlist and speak to the owner and the dog beforehand. No use buying a dog that needs a whistle if you can’t blow one like me. Good luck.

I bought two young dogs at Bentham the other week. A dog that I had in mind to go for and a bitch on the spur of the moment.

The bitch has taken straight to me and the dog seems to have his own agenda!

These were both in the little pen so dint cost much like.

Thanks Guys
Can't get now anyway, have picked one bitch I might get someone to bid for me but the video that's up for her is a bit vague so wont be going mad. Rather get nothing than a pot licker.

Personally I'd do some research look at facebook groups for dog sales and do a private viewing and deal with an arrangement to take back if you dont gel. Too many sold at auctions get moved on again..

Alot of people who go to skipton say the field the dogs run in is crap, they run the sheep(market staff)round many times so they end up just running straight to the exit, vendors have great expectations after a few headline prices, best buy one at home if you can, most dogs at skipton seem to be irish so you"ll get sorted I"m sure. Templemoyle sheepdogs any where near you @johnspeehs

Not Skipton or Bala and years ago, but I attended one popular sale and one dog was so bad in the hips it could barely run, but it sold and for a reasonable price too. Do they get vetted or even have a vet at the sale?

As I say, that was years ago and no doubt things have changed. I have been watching dogs working all my life and to me bad gait sticks out like a sore thumb. I don't need to see an ex-ray. I was amazed the dog even got a bid.

So, yes, buy privately from someone with a reputation to lose and have a trial if possible. I'd also prefer to see how a purchaser handles a dog as some haven't a clue!

A guy up here went to wales to buy a couple of " world championship " standard dogs.
When he arrived back he took them to a place he was renting to test them the arrogant pr*ck insisted my friends dogs be locked up incase these new dogs caught a disease.
These new dogs were then let out of motor and set off over the horizon.
After 5 mins the new owner said they are si good thats them checking in every gorse bush.....
After another 15 mins me and my friend left and the last words we heard were
" IF. YOU B@STARDS EVER COME BACK I'LL F###ING SHOOT YOU!!!

old neighbour bought a dog from Scotland, (there was a link with a Scottish estate, and here in somerset), anyway, dog duly arrived, by train, picked up, took home, no problem.
left it a couple of days to settle in, then tried to get it to work, dog just sat there , and looked at him expectantly, nothing. phone call to Scotland, ah, dog will only work to whistle, Charlie had dentures and couldn't whistle!!!! dog went back to Scotland, on the train, and a replacement came back, oral commands this time !!!
