Slitters / Aerators

I am looking at a slitter to run over some wet ground this autumn to (hopefully) allow me onto the ground a little earlier in the spring.

This grass ground in question just seems to ‘cap’ over the winter.

Would anyone have one available for me to hire for a few days this autumn? It would allow me to do some fields and see if it’s really worth buying one for the future.

Would have imagined the weather has done all the aerating needed this summer!
This possibly has parallels with the "too fine a seedbed" thread?
Stock massaging the soil surface in a dry period creates dust, which then caps?

My simplistic solution says to let covers build to protect that surface.... could be well wrong, of course. I was planning to be getting mine whirring this spring after grazing all winter, but I don't think I'll need to, electric fences have done their job really.

Just caught up on your all-winter-grazing thread, will comment here instead to say "thankyou, that was a bloody good read" (y)

Pan busting for the first time. Safe to say it works! Pretty clear result here.
