Slurry channel slats

Hi all,

we’re in need of doing something regarding our slurry channel slats. They are steel and 24 years old, just starting to sag in a place or two. Had a cow catch a claw last summer and a heifer now recently. They hesitate when going to walk over.

Our options are concrete or getting some metal ones made up with smaller gaps.

Would like to start traveling over them with a tractor and dispenser so we’re leaning toward concrete with the better cow welfare too! Also cheaper.

Just concerned about how well much will go down through, as specially as we like to use a fair bit of bedding.

Your thoughts are welcomed
Kind Regards

Were the originals galvanised?

Concrete are fine if you have a decent length for the scraper to pass over 5m or so.

Metal herringbone in top pic far and away best for losing slurry, straight metal ok but need to run on an angle to get best effect, concrete herringbone need to be v wide or you'll get alot of build up on top, straight concrete, might aswell not be there [emoji23]brew finished now

Concrete will fit our existing Chanel okay, we’ve been quoted £3500 for concrete the full run which is 1.2m wide by 85ft long and looking like a couple grand more for metal ones to be made up

Are the metal ones made by cow care systems? They look pretty similar and better for the cows than ours currently.

Thankyou for the pictures! [emoji106][emoji106]

Had some final prices now, so for 85ft run of concrete it works out at £3500

£10000 & £12500 for metal herringbone ones made up by two local firms. About 200 length of steel to go into them before we start...... your thoughts would be great [emoji106]

What about metal on the ends where the scraper drops and concrete in between?
