Slurry tanker pump new vanes

I have put new vanes in the slurry tanker pump (mec 10000l) i believe.
I took the back cover off, swapped the vanes, oiling the new ones well. Didn't move the pump, and all went back together ok, so the oil pump was still lined up ok. I can only just turn the pto with a big bar. If I slacken the bolts on the back cover a bit, I can move it easily, but if I nip the cover up tight, it is very difficult to turn again.
Should I try it like this on the tractor, or have I done something wrong? TIA

I remember when we got our new major back in 2007 the pump ran hot....it was a known problem and they put in another gasket in the back....not sure if yours will bed in... but just wonder if your vanes are slightly longer. Just my thoughts

You need to shim up the rear plate with extra gaskets intill it turns freely ish without too much resistance. As a bodge ish if you have a linisher wheel type machine take a little bit off the end of the vanes but the correct way is extra gaskets. Card will do as gasket if you can’t get new ones, just form them on the end plate with ball pein hammer.

Many thanks everyone, I did check them against the old before I put them in, but will take them out again to make sure, although one felt quite tight in its slot when it went in.
The gasket makes sense, will have a go tomorrow.

Last pump kit i bought was around 100 odd quid for an 11000 litre pump. Not that big of a job. Remove all bolts on back plate and front plate which will require takin front plate off gearbox. Take back plate off the pull front plate with rotor out. Change veins and put together again.
