Have a continuous drain of 6 kw during daylight hours , is it worth putting panels for say 8 to 10kw in to cover this ? Supply is only single phase so not worth going big.

Definitely. you will need DNO permission and if they do cut the FIT in Dec. as they threatened I am afraid you have probably missed the boat.
It probably would be worth placing panels East West to level out the supply more if the drain is constant
Just something for you to consider... You could purchase online solar grid tie system that you could install yourself. It simply plugs into one of your electrical sockets. You can choose what size you want, and it much cheaper. No requirement for the FiT or any 20year contract!
Its only a suggestion but for some people this is the answer. If you own something like an electric aga and have a drain (like you said of 6kw) then these should be essential when installing...
Ah okay thanks , local grid is western power is that dno ? How long does approval take? Any recommendations for installers . My small systems were done through sparky mate who doesn't do solar install anymore.
