*There’s a metjeffuk weather watch out for Friday*

At the moment our Severe Weather Centre is watching the track of an incoming depression with the potential for a snow event in the north of the country especially over the high ground it’s a long way off but we will keep you updated at metjeffuk..com

Sorry guys but I thought I would give all a heads up for Friday especially with lambing going on: very cold arctic air and a depression coming in to the mix it’s not looking good I expect any snow more likely of course over high ground in the north but it’s one to watch.

Nooooo

Please mr weather give us a break :( thinking of starting a petition for some sunshine
If that does arrive it will be sunny, and cool, for time of year. It will be a pretty dry drying airmass.
Snow showers will be on North facing hill nothing to get waterproofs in a twist about really.
Should add @METJEFFUK that the image portrays temps at 850 mB or as most folk call it 4500 feet (the top of Ben Nevis!)or 9 degrees Celsius warmer at sea level.

Hi capfits yes are absolutely right but as I mention I ‘m thinking high ground if it comes off but what you must remember is that all precipitation with those upper air temps will be falling as snow (although it might start off as rain at ground level) and so will cool the air rapidly down to/or below freezing over high ground and sometimes to ground level even in April.

Currents ground temps on Friday O6Z are being forecast for the north to be at or below freezing.

Still waiting for Metjeff's 29 days of snow cover for February. Would have saved us a fortune in fungicides.

Feb, did not go to plan but much of Scotland and Northern Ireland were colder than average. Weather is never an exact science.

February 2016

At the start of February, the UK was in an unsettled west to south-westerly regime with frequent rain, especially for western areas. Storm Henry brought widespread gale-force winds on the 1st and 2nd, especially in the north, and then Storm Imogen brought further strong winds mainly to the south on the 7th and 8th. It turned colder around the 15th with some scattered wintry showers and sharp night frosts. After some further rain, there was a mild interlude over England and Wales on the 20th and 21st, but the remainder of the month was generally dry, sunny and cold.

The provisional UK mean temperature was 3.9 °C, which is 0.2 °C above the 1981-2010 long-term average. It was milder than average in the south, but much of Scotland and Northern Ireland were colder than average.

Any sign of spring coming?

Current indications is that the probability over the next two weeks is for lower than average temps with winds coming from a cold source i.e. the north with this will come a lot rain and sometimes wintry weather. We are getting also some indication that things will warm up briefly towards the end of the month with higher than normal heights. more at metjeffuk.com
