The coldest part of the day is often 830 to 9 amI’ve always noticed this …. Why does it gets significantly colder just as the sun comes up? Look at the difference between 5am and 8am

1947 was pretty bad too -- just sayin'. We had a drift 6 ft deep in the farm gateway that had to be dug out before the milk float could get out . Horse had long icicles on his nose waiting there to get through !67,68,&69 had some heavy snowfall also. Most years it was a couple of times lasted a week or so.
Think it was 71 & 72 didn't even have a day of frost.
Went to Cirencester this morning for the weekly shop - was coming down fairish at 9:30, took me an hour and a half to get back home (10 miles) people driving like morons and sliding about all over the place.
How old were you then ? My father used to talk about 1947 Winter alot. He said it didnt start till nearly the end of January but kept on for 3 months right through April. Still had snow in the dyke backs in June. An old lady died up the road and they couldnt get her buried for 2 months. They just put her in the coldest room in the house and stood the coffin upright with her in it. Rabbits and other wildlife coming into the farm buildings looking for food, they just starved to death. He said 1963 was just as cold but they were better equipped to deal with it then.1947 was pretty bad too -- just sayin'. You think that’s bad, been on a21 near lamberhurst for 3hrs. Every cnt driving like a d**khead causing road blockage. Tree down somewhere apparently and all other routes home also blocked according to what I’ve learnt. Going to have to camp out I think.Went to Cirencester this morning for the weekly shop - was coming down fairish at 9:30, took me an hour and a half to get back home (10 miles) people driving like morons and sliding about all over the place.
Once again my 18 yr old RAV4 that cost me £1500 4 years ago didn't let me down.
